Elvis Aaron Presley

Elvis Aaron Presley was born on 8th January 1935.

He was born a twin but his brother Jessie was stillborn. His parents were Vernon and Gladys Presley. Elvis grew up in a very poor area in a two-room house in Tupelo, Mississippi. His mother was never to have any other children and due to the death of his twin brother and the fact he was an only child, Elvis and his mother developed an extremely close relationship which lasted all their lives. The family moved to Memphis, Tennessee in 1948.

Gospel music and Elvis Presley

Heartbreak Hotel

In 1954, Elvis signed up for the Sun Records label in Memphis. In late 1955, his recording contract was sold to RCA Victor. Colonel Parker becomes the manager of Elvis Presley. Elvis records his first album for RCA in January at their studio in Nashville. Heartbreak Hotel .is the song on this album to become his first single.

The gospel music Elvis Presley heard in church and at the all-night gospel sings he frequently attended were to influence his music taste greatly. He would also spend hours listening to the music and songs of the black artists of his time. The combination of the music influences he had experienced as a child and teenager and his own style made his music unique.

Graceland Mansion

Elvis Presley world wide star.

By 1956 he was a world wide star. In March 1957 Elvis was able to buy GracelandMansion for himself, his parents, and his grandmother. In December Elvis is drafted into the US Army. On March 24, Presley was inducted into the U.S. Army as a private at FortChaffee, near Fort Smith, Arkansas.

He was stationed in Germany and this is where he met Priscilla Beaulieu. She was fourteen years old at the time. After seven years and Pricilla reaching twenty one they married. They had a daughter together, Lisa Marie in 1968. The couple separated in 1972 and eventually divorced.

Listened to Elvis songs as a child all the time because my father loved his music. Enjoyed the hub and the old photos of Elvis.

Not too sure whether making Elvis a Mr Potato Head is a very good idea. As a fan I certainly would not buy one lol.

Hi viking yes Elvis is for sure The King of Rock and Roll. It is such a shame we lost him so early in his life. He has left us with some great music though. To this day I don't think any other artist has come close to been as good as Elvis was/is. I love the old photo's myself, he was so handsome in his early years before he put on so much weight. I hated to see him going down hill like he did in the couple of years leading to his death.

I feel the same way about this Mr. Potato head launch for his anniversary. It does't seem appropriate! But then like I say I am sure Elvis will see the funny side of it.. I don't think I will be buying one myself..

Thank you for your comment and I hope the music brings you as much pleasure as it has for me.. Garlic Angel :-)

11/22, hello, Garlic Angel...Amazing read here! Voted up and away. Masterfully-written. Nicely-said and presented. Probably one of the best stories about Elvis and Lisa Marie I've read in years. YOU, my new friend, have gained a fan and a follower in ME. And I wish YOU a Happy Thanksgiving 2011 and Extend a Personal Invite to YOU to visit and read my hubs if you like to laugh. I would appreciate it if you would follow me too. That would be great! Higest Regards, Kenneth Avery, from a rural town, Hamilton, in northwest Alabama that resembles Mayberry, the sweet town on The Andy Griffith Show. I was so nice to have met YOU!
